It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post about Bubu, so here he is on our bed this morning. I had just had a bath and walking upstairs with dripping hair, I found him playing under the bed protector. One of our other cats has developed a slight leakage problem and I bought a box of these covers in the hope I might cut down on washing the blankets. The kittens however, see them as toys and the trickiest part is keeping them on the bed in the first place. Bubu is different in that he will spend ages under there, playing, or just looking at the world through his own private filter.
I had a bit of a dilemma – ignore the potential for an interesting photograph, or risk my hair drying without the normal intervention. These days I have learned to work with the opportunity that has been put in front of me, as I rarely get a second chance. By the time I got back upstairs, the others had joined in and my subject was wriggling under the cover like a whirling dervish. Most of the time I couldn’t even make out his little face and the poor light meant I needed him to be still, at least for a moment.
Finally my chance came and I grabbed it. One glance… one moment of stillness and then he was off. It’s hard to believe he is the same kitten we adopted from Romania just over three years ago. I don’t know what made me choose the tiny ginger and white scrap from all the other kitties looking for a new home, but I’m so glad I did. I’m still in touch with his rescuers and they love seeing new images of him.
I have a mind to get this printed very large on canvas one day.
